I was too young to remember, but the film is praised as ‘inventing modern movie marketing’. Did people truly think it was real at the time? It had such an interesting marketing campaign even down to the actors using their real names in the film. IMDB was quite a new website at the time and the actors were listed as missing, I think? But did it really have anyone fooled at the time? There was nothing really like it before, so it wouldn’t surprise me.
